Coming Out, Coming Home 愛. 回家

Coming Out Coming Home is an Australia first creative photography project that reflects on the individual identity, queerness and intersectionality of the Chinese queer community. Inspired by the psychotherapy technique ‘chair work’, artist Arctic Qu invites participants from the Chinese LGBTQ+ community to enter into an abstract space with chairs, colours and objects representing the notion of ‘home’ for them. Invited to project the experiences of their coming out stories to this space, rich emotions are provoked and captured.

Rachel and Jacinta are joined by President of Dykes on Bikes Melbourne, TJ White, and PhD researcher, Hao Zheng, to chat about our experiences as lesbians and queer women ahead of this International Lesbian Day on 8 October. We find out about what it was like for dykes back in the 70s and 80s in Melbourne, including femme flagging practices, demonstrations and dances. We also hear about how queer and lesbian communities are built online and through mobilities globally.
